The 1957 BMW 501 V8, affectionately nicknamed the "Baroque Angel," is a landmark model representing BMW's committed return to the luxury segment following the Second World War. Unveiled to compete directly with Mercedes-Benz's emerging premium models, the 501 utilized a robust, all-new chassis with modern double-wishbone front suspension. Crucially, this V8 variant marked the introduction of one of the first post-war V8 engines in Germany, cementing the 501's position as a prestigious, hand-built executive car defined by craftsmanship rather than high-volume production. Its dramatically flowing bodywork earned the enduring "Baroque Angel" moniker, instantly recognizing it as a pillar of 1950s German design heritage.

The 501 was constructed on BMW’s perimeter chassis featuring independent front suspension with double wishbones and torsion bars. This V8 variant introduced one of the first post-war V8 engines in Germany: the revolutionary all-aluminium 2.6-liter V8. This sophisticated, lightweight powerplant was then fitted with a four-speed manual transmission, which was positioned further back in the chassis to maximize front cabin legroom.

This example is currently presented in an elegant and period-correct combination of a Black exterior over a distinguished Red Leather interior. The styling showcases the characteristic curved fenders, the classic BMW kidney grille, and an overall imposing aesthetic. Inside, the cabin maintains a high level of luxury, featuring the iconic white two-spoke steering wheel and generous seating upholstered in rich, pleated Red Leather.

The vehicle is reported to be in sound mechanical order, running and driving. It has been recently attended to with an essential service that included a thorough oil and filter change and the replacement of all four brake cylinders, ensuring operational confidence for the next owner.

To maximize its presentation on consignment, the car has benefited from professional detailing work performed by our partner, Topaz. This preparation included a multi-stage paint correction to deepen the luster of the Black finish and professional conditioning of the Red Leather upholstery, ensuring this historical saloon is presented in its finest possible cosmetic state.
