PIERRE JEANNERET Swiss-born architect and designer Pierre Jeanneret (1896–1967) spent most of his career working with his cousin Le Corbusier, shaping the modernist movement through pure, functional design. Their most important collaboration was Chandigarh, India’s new capital city in the 1950s, where Jeanneret not only designed civic buildings but also the furniture that filled them.
Each piece was built with local materials and crafted for purpose, reflecting the same ideals as the city itself: functional, timeless, and honest in form. Works such as the Kangourou Chair and Pigeonhole Desk became enduring symbols of modern design. Today, Chandigarh furniture continues to be highly sought after by collectors worldwide for its cultural and architectural significance.
