Produced between 1959 and 1969, the Jaguar mid-size sports saloon was a significant advance over the previous Mark 1. With a redesigned cabin providing an 18% increase in glass area for much better visibility, and sophisticated mechanical updates, the Mark 2 is widely considered the quintessential 1960s sports saloon.

Mark 2s were powered by Jaguar's iconic "XK" engine in capacities of 2.4L, 3.4L, and 3.8L at the top of the range. The 3.8L was among the fastest saloons in the world with a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) and acceleration from 0-60 mph in 8.5 seconds, rivaling many genuine sports cars of the era.

This example is a genuine left-hand drive Mark 2 3.8 manufactured in 1961 with factory power steering and Borg-Warner automatic transmission. The car was first registered in Thailand in July 1995, and this Mark 2 has remained with the same owner since its arrival, as shown by the registration documentation.

The car is currently powered by a replacement Toyota 3.0-liter straight-six and matching 4-speed automatic transmission. The transmission interface has been modified with a Jaguar floor shifter in place of the original column-mounted selector, which is no longer functional. Beyond these mechanical updates, the car presents in remarkably original condition. The exterior shows consistent panel gaps, while the interior retains its factory wood veneers with their authentic patina, complemented by the addition of an air conditioning system for comfort in Thailand's tropical climate.

This Mark 2 represents a practical approach to classic car ownership, maintaining the aesthetic and presence of an iconic 1960s saloon while incorporating select modifications that potentially enhance reliability for regular use on the roads of Thailand.
